The Old Highway

From what i remember out of some casual reading thro' Madras Miscellany of The Hindu, by Historian S Muthaiah, i am to believe that one of the old highways of the Madras Presidency is the road which went all the way from the entrance of the Government Estate, (which was called the Governor's retreat then) towards south, thus connecting Triplicane and further down, to the Santhome Palace and the Basilica and to Mylapore. (Triplicane and Mylapore were the first sub-urbs of Chennai-pattanam - They are in the heart of Greater Chennai now)

This road still exists, though far from being a high way.

The road as such begins as the Triplicane High Road and then continues thro' Triplicane as Dr. Natesan Road, to reach Mylapore, where it is called Bazaar road.

The road is rather narrow for today's city space and has changed enough to have no remains of those early days of its existance. It must have been the path for every other Britisher to go to the Santhome Basilica and also for all those people who lived in sub urban parts to go to the city.

Now, why am i worried about this road? I use some parts of this road, to reach IIT campus from home, on most days. Every time i travel on it, i m reminded of its historical importance...

Eight Random Paths to Narcissim

Lakshmi dared me to disclose eight random facts about myself. So here goes:

1. I have got both my toe nails removed quite a few times, while in school.
2. One day at our school ground, while trying to bowl a ball, i tripped and fell down. I was left with a torn muscle in my left forearm. That was the last time i played or watch Cricket.
3. I think I sing decently in solitude only. Have never made any impression with public singing. The number of times, i have cupped in public is too many to keep track.
4. I have a liking towards talk shows on TV.
5. I was a regular viewer of soaps like Shanti and Swabhimaan and even, the kyunki sans bhi kabhi bahu thi, till a few years ago. Always liked Friends.
6. I had the opportunity to play tampura for Sri Vijay Siva for a concert, when he came to our school to sing for Spic Macay. However, i couldnt play the full concert because, i was tensed and dint strum the strings properly. The tampura went out off sruti and hence, i left stage.
7. I like going on long rides on my moped in lonely roads. So much so that, i quite frequently go on such rides quite late in the night, into the city roads, which are empty only during those hours.
8. My english Grammar is rather weak. But i never accept it.

Here are my eight, of course, they need not take it up if they have other more pressing commitments :

1. Shankar Prasad at The Daily Chime
2. Kesavan, the modest genius
3. Karthik's Pertinent Observations
4. Ashish on Mozzarella
5. Gayatri at Paint my note!
6. Mohan whenever he is vetti
7. Amrit at vatsap?
8. Vinay when he psyches less

Here are the rules:

1. Players start with 8 random facts about themselves.
2. Those who are tagged should post these rules and their 8 random facts.
3. Players should tag 8 other people and notify them they have been tagged.
